Dancing in Social Media.

Today June 24, 2010 I went to the #getsocial unconference at the Renaisance hotel in OKC.   I thought I would pass on what I learned in list format, since I am going to be linear leaping all over the place. Special thanks to @blogging4jobs for being the face of the conference and creating a forum for people to meet one another and engage. I follow a bunch of the folks at the conference and since the conference a bunch more. 1.   British Petroleum is not an evil company, they just don’t know how to tell the truth, or hide a 250k plus barrel body. I also think the quality PR people employed by BP were hired in the last 45 days or since the spill.

2. Presenters in general are pretty smart people, some however may consider not putting up word problem equations on the whiteboard explaining healthcare.

3. Audience demands reality and authenticity, if you don’t give it you will be called out.

3.5. Audiences also demand abundant, unique and valuable content.

4. The time to get involved in social media is now, and not when you are trying to clean up your mess.

5. Work on the influenced and not the influencer.

6. In small town America cave people exist, and their only function is to save the world one coffee shop at a time.

7. Dogs keep barking and trains keep moving.

8. Geo locational services are going to be big, and you don’t have to own a location to create a location.

9. Social media is free now.

10. Everybody is selling something, actually I knew that.

11. Always be creating is the new ABC’s

12. Tell your story in your own words, tell it in as many places as you can. You can hang your post in multiple locations around the Internet.

13. Customer service is all you got.

14. Digital Distribution erases geographic advantage, the only barriers are self imposed You can work and live wherever you want.

15. The hard stuff is easy, and the people stuff is hard.

16. Create and monitor your own networks, be sure to visit other networks as well.

17. If you dance, don’t hold back, you might change the world.
